Job description: OverviewThe Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a Technician to work in the Property Management Section as the lead for reviewing projects proposed by municipalities, state agencies, businesses and the general public that will traverse or cross our active railroad rights of way or airports. The incumbent will provide site inspections during projects and confirm compliance in how the project is constructed. The position will work with entities wanting to lease property from VTrans that is within the right of way of an active rail line or on an airport to determine layout, compliance with safety areas, evaluate risks and investigate any complaints about the use of these properties. Enforcement could require coordination with legal staff, municipalities, human service entities, contractors, and others as the situation dictates.Additionally, the Technician will collect site data such as dimensions, conflicts and use and provide it to property management team members to complete agreements as needed. Work with contractors to have work done on state owned Amtrak stations for things like snow removal, heating fuel and site maintenance. Incumbent shall act as resident engineer responsible for oversight of one or more simple to moderate projects.Who May ApplyThis position, AOT Technician VI – Property Management (Job Requisition #52359), is open to all State employees and external applicants.

You must apply online to be considered.Environmental FactorsDuties are generally performed in an office, laboratory, and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded, or steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions. Attendance at public meetings as an agency representative where strong adversarial opinions may be encountered. Some public speaking may be needed. Out of state travel may be required. Overtime needs are predictable.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering technology, environmental technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related technical field AND six (6) years of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.ORAssociate degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture or related field AND eight (8) years of experience as described above.ORHigh School diploma or equivalent AND ten (10) years of experience as described above.ORTwo (2) years or more of experience as an AOT Technician V with the State of Vermont.Special RequirementsSome positions in this job class may require possession of a valid driver’s license.Total CompensationAs a State employee you are offered a great career opportunity, but it’s more than a paycheck.
